First Grade
ELA:
Reading fluency increases; students focus on decoding, understanding story elements (characters, setting), and writing simple narratives or informative pieces. Vocabulary grows.
Math:
Emphasis on addition and subtraction within 20, place value (tens/ones), and understanding basic measurement and geometric shapes.
Science:
Concepts include weather, materials, organisms and their environments, and forces/motion through hands-on investigations.
Social Studies:
Focus on community, national holidays, maps, and basic economics (needs and wants) to understand local and national citizenship themes.
