First Grade

ELA:

  • Reading fluency increases; students focus on decoding, understanding story elements (characters, setting), and writing simple narratives or informative pieces. Vocabulary grows.

Math:

  • Emphasis on addition and subtraction within 20, place value (tens/ones), and understanding basic measurement and geometric shapes.

Science:

  • Concepts include weather, materials, organisms and their environments, and forces/motion through hands-on investigations.

Social Studies:

  • Focus on community, national holidays, maps, and basic economics (needs and wants) to understand local and national citizenship themes.

Religion:

  • Deepening children’s understanding of God’s love within family and community life by learning how to care for themselves and others, express feelings appropriately, practice forgiveness, and live out love through everyday choices and relationships.
